D.Gray-man: An anime with incredible potential that has been lost

D.Gray-man
It is no secret that the shonen genre is the most popular in the industry and as proof, there are countless hits that conquered the market, such as Dragon Ball, Naruto and One Piece, just to name a few, but there are others that despite having a plot and characters to match, failed to capture their place in history even though they had everything to do so. That is why the following article is dedicated to D.Gray-man, a work that practically had the formula for success in its hands, but for some reason, it did not materialize when it should have and now, it is only a shadow of what it once was.
Get to know the plot of D.Gray-man
D.Gray-man explores a plot that takes elements of the Christian religion and adds a rather original touch that makes it a unique work in its style despite being a shonen, a genre that many of us know tends to suffer from a lack of fresh ideas.
In this context, the story takes place in 19th century Europe, although with very noticeable changes, such as the presence of the ultimate enemy to defeat, the Count of the Millennium, a very particular subject with the aptitude of a clown, but do not be deceived, as he intends to destroy humanity and for this he makes use of the Akumas and Ryus, demonic creatures created from the souls of people who have died and whose relatives do not overcome their deaths.
As expected, the Akuma and Ryu are too powerful for an ordinary human to defend themselves, which is why to fight them there is an organization known as the Congregation of the shadow, also known as the dark order, who have the baptized exorcists, people who make use of a divine power called innocence.
There are a total of 109 pieces of innocence and among them, it is believed that there is a particularly special one and it is the heart, an innocence with which they could completely destroy the Count of the millennium and end this war once and for all, but unfortunately there is a detail and that is that no one knows where it is, so both the exorcists and the Count are looking for it.
The exorcists need it in order to put an end to the evil that is besieging them, while the main enemy only wants to destroy it, and this is where our protagonist, Allen Walker, a boy who joined the organization and who has an innocence of the parasitic type, comes in.
Throughout the episodes he will face increasingly powerful enemies, but at the same time, he will make new allies that will help him in his fight, although not everything is about action and there are also good doses of comedy and drama, a couple of elements that complement his development very well.
How many seasons and episodes does D.Gray-man have?

D.Gray-man has a total of two seasons, the first of which premiered on October 3, 2006 and was animated by the studio TMS Entertainment, with the director Osamu Nabeshima, who was in charge of directing the 103 episodes that make up this first part.
However, in spite of its success, it was finally put on hold for the September 30, 2008 due to the fact that the creator of the work was suffering from health problems and unfortunately, there were no new releases until 8 years later.
Finally, in 2016, the second season was released, which was titled. D.Gray-man Hallow, which continued the story where the first season ended, but this one would not have as many episodes and barely had 13, in total, it has 116 episodes and unfortunately, it is incomplete.
Will it have a third season?
This is undoubtedly the million dollar question and it is not for less, since it has been almost 7 years since the release of the second season and there is no news suggesting a sequel, so fans of the show fear that it has been completely forgotten, although of course, we can not rule out that at any time it will be resumed, since we are talking about D.Gray-man, a shonen that enjoyed world-class popularity at the time.
Katsura Hoshino, the author of D.Gray-man
D.Gray-man is based on a manga of the same name, which is written and illustrated by the mangaka Katsura Hoshino, who got his serialization in the magazine Shonen Jump for the May 31, 2004, but due to an accident, the artist hurt her hand, precisely the one she was drawing with, and this caused the work to be stopped at the end of the year. November 2008.
However, the March 9, 2009, publication was resumed, although it lasted only a short time, as once again the publication was stopped. April 27 of the same year due to the mangaka's health problems. The August 17 there was a special chapter of about 50 pages, but it finally ended up December 29, 2012, The company went on hiatus due to the health of its creator.
Fortunately, he returned for the 2015, but this time in the magazine Jump SQ.Crown, which is published on a quarterly basis, so that only 4 chapters are published per year and to date, they are compiled in 28 volumes.
Light novel
D.Gray-man also has a format for light novels, which are entitled D.Gray-man: Reverse and were written by Kaya Kizaki, with 3 publications to date. It should be noted that some episodes of the anime are based on the novels.
D.Gray-man, a shonen that had everything to be successful
D.Gray-man undoubtedly has an extremely interesting plot that fascinated more than one, so it is not surprising that in the beginning, it was a weekly anime, reaching 103 episodes, but unfortunately, fate played against her and its author was unable to keep up with the demanding pace of the industry.
And because of this, it was relegated while other works took its place and over time, interest was lost, and although there was a new season, it was nowhere near the glory it once enjoyed. That is why despite all the incredible elements that make up this story, many consider it lost, although the most enthusiastic do not lose faith in a glorious return.
